Welcome to the O’Doherty Research Group

The O’Doherty group research interests broadly encompass the discipline of organic synthesis toward designing, synthesizing and testing new anticancer, antibacterial and antiviral agents. Our approach involves the use of asymmetric catalysis for the enantioselective synthesis of stereochemically complex molecules from achiral starting materials. We refer to this approach as De Novo Asymmetric Synthesis. We have been working to develop practical de novo asymmetric approaches for the synthesis for the Stereochemical-Structure Activity Relationship (S-SAR) studies on these natural products with an emphasis on the carbohydrate portion of the molecule.
